Human Resources Generalist

Based out of our offices in the Cambridge area, we are looking for a Human Resources Generalist specializing in recruitment, health and safety, and day-to-day HR administration to join our team. Our ideal candidate is a true human resources generalist, business partner, and health and safety coordinator who is comfortable working in a unionized environment.

Key Responsibilities

Recruitment Duties:

 Responsible for recruitment at all levels within the business, developing strategies for difficult to fill or niche roles.

§  Partner with the line managers to ensure that accurate information is gained and developed for the recruitment process, thus ensuring targeted and quality recruitment.

§  Ensure a first-class recruitment and selection process experience for both candidates and hiring managers.

§  Provide training to managers on recruitment process and tools, and a framework for best practice onboarding.

Prepare paperwork, schedule, and facilitate smooth new hire onboarding process, coordinating with cross-functional departments to deliver an exceptional first-day experience.

 

Talent management, Development and Engagement, Communication Duties:

Handle all administrative tasks for onboarding, new hire orientation, and exit interviews, including entering data into HR information systems and auditing for accuracy and compliance.

§  Drive the talent management agenda in conjunction with managers to ensure retention and development of individuals, including bench strength.

§  Partner with line managers to source quality training and development solutions based on proper needs assessment that is in line with the global training and development philosophy.

   Support, develop and execute employee communication 

   Collaboratively develop and maintain employee engagement initiatives.

§  Attend regular Senior Management Team meetings and reports on current HR issues/solutions as appropriate and ensure operational issues are reflected in the HR strategic planning process.

  Support a corporate culture that benefits performance and ensures a high level of accountability.

 

Total Compensation, Health and Safety, Administration Duties:

  Proactively provide information and insights on market data to support talent attraction and retention.

§  Ensure total compensation and benefits practices comply with global guidelines and directives.

  Oversee and administer the Company’s Health and Safety program across all facilities.

  Coordinate employee benefit programs including “return to work” programs in conjunction with Payroll and Benefits Administrator.

§  Ensure legal compliance is maintained including WSIB program management, disability management, workplace inspections, health and safety training, etc.

§  Ensure that the interests of employees and Company are considered in accordance with HR policies, and applicable government laws and regulations.

Ensure the senior managers are informed of issues and requisite policy matters on a timely basis and keeps other departments informed as required.

Assist in the communication, interpretation, and upkeep of employee handbook, employee directory, and organizational chart, and contributes to the development of policies.

 

Employee and Labour Relations Duties:

Stay up to date on employment legislation and collective bargaining agreement.

§  Ensure that HR polices are communicated in timely manner in line with local and CBA requirements.

§  Support labour relations and union activities, disputes, grievances and communication.

 

Required Qualifications

 

§  3+ years human resources experience at a generalist level across multiple HR disciplines, including recruitment, health and safety, and labour relations – a significant portion of this experience is preferable in a manufacturing environment.

§  Experience working in a unionized environment is a nice to have but not a requirement.

§  High aptitude and desire to identify and solve problems within the business in a participative manner.

Advanced knowledge of MS Office, HRIS systems, and comfortable learning new technical systems as needed.

§  Excellent communication skills, including presentation and experience building rapport with a new team.

A minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related background, CHRL designation or equivalent experience.

Practical understanding of and hands on experience with Canadian employment law, including provincial and federal legislation requirements. Ability to learn and apply employment policies and legislation.

 

Other Details

 Pay range- Minimum of $60,000/year or higher depending on the experience.
