The Buyer position will be responsible for all aspects of the supply chain for the company. Manages raw material and ordering processes, production demand planning, and material flow between plant production and the warehouse. Manages inventory control activities as well as shipping/receiving activities.

Success relies on the ability to build relationships and fully engage all stakeholders in business improvement. Key performance metrics include but not limited to: key certifications in cGMP and food safety, product quality, fill rate and on-time delivery, lower conversion cost year over year, successful retention of improved yield and asset reliability.

Primary Accountabilities

  • Custodian of the customer and business rules to ensure optimal supply to customers. Manage the commerce supply chain to meet or exceed customer’s needs.
  • Develop, negotiate and implement supply agreements with suppliers.
  • Set stock levels for bought in raw materials stocks and ensure adequate timing is managed to meet production requirements.
  • Minimize the total costs of supply to include stockholding costs, write offs and delivery costs to customers. Manage stock at risk and aging stock to avoid exposure against the business.
  • Coordinate and influence sales and operational planning activities, including the chairing of monthly meetings to reduce and maintain a live portfolio of products, obtain clarity of new product launch dates, volumes, get slow moving stock sold and negotiating with internal departments to increase stock velocity.
  • Ensure that operations are scheduled on time to meet customer’s requirements and achieve a balance between responsiveness and stability through a focused results-oriented approach with an ability to challenge the status quo and provide pragmatic solutions.
  • Maintain inventory management system to ensure accurate scheduling of production and optimization of raw material stocks.
  • Ensure clear and efficient communication to all stakeholders. Drive cost and stock reduction initiatives. Take charge of supply chain projects from launch through to completion.
  • Report customer service and other supply chain metrics such as cost, inventory turns, root cause, non-compliance and work with senior management to ensure target customer service levels are attained to raise levels of service.
  • Understand regulatory standards and work with Compliance and QA on related updates in the business and the industry.
  • Ensure that relevant health and safety, and food hygiene and safety standards are maintained at all times within each department.

Qualifications

  • Manufacturing, processing or packaging industry with specific experience in food production and sourcing.
  • Lean/continuous improvement experience strongly desired.
  • Advanced analytical skills.
  • Contract negotiations and agreements.
  • Insatiable intellectual curiosity- asking the compelling and challenging questions.
  • Results-driven with a strong desire to grow and learn in a fast- paced environment.
  • Demonstrated track record exceeding targets goals.
  • Experience with inventory management systems strongly desired.
  • Intermediate/advance skills in excel.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and attitude.
