Salary: up to $22.00/hr

SUMMARY: 

Prepares and cooks a variety of food for agency residents, guests and patients. Performs other duties involved with sanitation, inventory, supplies and safety.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assists in preparation of salads and dressings, desserts and sauces.
  • Organizes and prepares necessary meal preparation work for future meal items. 
  • Prepares salads and soups for both lunch and dinner. Prepares and cooks vegetables for PM meal.
  • Prepares and cooks starches for PM meal.
  • Prepares and cooks proteins as per daily menu.
  • May assist in agency tray line for the health center trays.
  • Maintains high standards of safety and sanitation.
  • Assists with cleaning and sanitizing as described on department cleaning list.
  • Operates all kitchen equipment that is required in food preparation and production.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

Thorough knowledge of cooking techniques and procedures and operation of kitchen and workflow.  Knowledge of kitchen equipment and food preparation. Ability to follow written and verbal instruction. Skills to lift and carry up to 25 pounds on a regular basis. Patience and understanding of the aged. Basic reading, writing and English skills to read menus and follow written and verbal instructions.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

High school graduation or equivalent.  Minimum of three to four years’ experience in restaurants or institutional food service preparation as a cook with primary responsibility for meal preparation.

 

Must be capable of performing the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations. Must meet health assessment requirements as regulated by the California Department of Social Services.
