Express Employment Professionals is currently partnering with our manufacturing client in Blaine that has been a leader in Lawn Care manufacturing since 1919. They are now looking to hire for a Prototype Engineering position. 

 

Position Summary:  In this exciting role you are assured to have a seat and a voice at the table from the very beginning regarding any new or enhanced part or product. You will interact with production, engineering, the prototype team, and senior leadership as well as the commercial end user on occasion. This is a key role that will report directly to the VP of Manufacturing.  Once the idea is conceived, 3D modeling is completed, and blueprints are approved, you step in to build the mule. This is where your jack of all trade’s knowledge of welding, machining, hydraulics, paint, and fixture building will serve you well in building the first pre-production model and get a chance to see your ideas on some of the top golf courses and sports fields in action around the world.

 

Essential Job Duties:

• Fabricate prototype parts to print (welding, machining, sheet metal, etc.)
• Assemble prototype machines
• Test prototype machines based on engineering test procedures, troubleshoot issues with the machine
• Teach assemblers how to assemble new production machines and verify they are assembled correctly
• Design (w/engineer assistance) and fabricate fixtures for assembly and welding

Required knowledge and experience:

• Basic understanding/experience of hydraulic systems
• Welding ability (MIG welding of mild steel)
• Machining ability (Engine Lathe, Bridgeport Mill, Bandsaw, Drill Press etc.)
• Simple 12 Volt electrical systems knowledge/experience
• Blueprint reading and basic design instincts
• Troubleshooting/problem solving issues on equipment
• Use measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, etc.)
• Ability to train, answer questions and communicate with a wide range of employees (engineer, drafter, assemblers, supervisors etc.)

Preferred skills:

• Prior fixture building
• Prior experience of the above skills in a production facility
• Previously worked on a team with draftsman, sales & marketing, engineering etc. and has taken direction regarding product development.
• Can be productive without constant supervision
• Ability to use/learn computer programs (Excel, Word, Solidworks)
• Creative thinking/can come up with new designs/design improvements on equipment
• Multitasking-can have more than one project going on and can prioritize work based on management direction
• Forklift experience
• Experience in working on or operating outdoor power equipment (turf, agriculture, construction, or similar equipment)
