Job Description:
A small engine mechanic is responsible for inspecting, repairing, and maintaining small engines found in various equipment such as lawnmowers, chainsaws, generators, and other power tools. They diagnose issues, disassemble engines, repair or replace defective parts, and reassemble engines to ensure they function properly. Small engine mechanics may work in a variety of settings, including repair shops, dealerships, rental companies, or as independent contractors.

Responsibilities:

Perform routine maintenance on small engines, including oil changes, filter replacements, and tune-ups.
Diagnose mechanical issues by examining equipment and conducting tests.
Disassemble engines and examine parts for damage or wear.
Repair or replace defective parts such as pistons, valves, and bearings.
Reassemble engines and test them to ensure proper function.
Use diagnostic tools and equipment, such as computerized engine analyzers, to identify problems.
Maintain accurate records of repairs, including parts used and labor hours.
Provide estimates for repair costs and communicate with customers regarding recommended repairs.
Keep work area clean and organized.
Stay updated on new technologies and techniques in small engine repair.


Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent.
Completion of a vocational or technical training program in small engine repair preferred.
Previous experience working with small engines, either through professional employment or hobbyist activities.
Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
Familiarity with diagnostic tools and equipment.
Ability to interpret technical manuals and diagrams.
Excellent attention to detail and manual dexterity.
Customer service skills for interacting with clients.
Physical stamina and strength to lift and maneuver heavy equipment.
Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and techniques.
