Job Summary: Under supervision, the Park Maintenance Worker I & II (Grounds) performs a wide variety of semi-skilled to skilled landscape and park maintenance tasks. The ideal candidate will assist in tree pruning, turf maintenance, playground inspections, irrigation system installation and repair, waste collection, enforcement of park rules, and more.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

·        Assist in pruning trees using hand or power saws.

·        Maintain turf areas through mowing, edging, fertilizing, spraying, aerating, and watering.

·        Plant and remove trees, shrubs, and other plant materials.

·        Conduct playground inspections, identify hazards, and maintain related logs.

·        Install, repair, and maintain sprinkler systems.

·        Enforce park rules and ordinances.

·        Collect waste, empty and line waste receptacles, and remove debris to ensure cleanliness and safety.

·        Control weeds through hand-pulling, hoeing, and spraying.

·        Prepare athletic fields and related facilities and equipment.

·        Clean and sanitize park restrooms and other facilities.

·        Maintain and service a broad range of motorized equipment.

·        Collaborate with building maintenance and custodial staff.

·        Ensure regular, predictable attendance.

Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications:

Knowledge of:

·        Tree pruning techniques, methods, and equipment.

·        Basic methods, tools, materials, and equipment used in landscape and park maintenance.

·        Safe work practices.

·        District ordinances and rules.

·        Names and growth characteristics of common turf grasses, trees, shrubs, and plant materials.

Skill in:

·        Operating common tools and equipment used in landscape and park maintenance.

·        Installing, repairing, and maintaining irrigation systems.

·        Tree, shrub, turf, and other plant material maintenance.

Ability to:

·        Work independently or as part of a crew.

·        Work from ladders.

·        Follow oral and written instructions; communicate effectively, orally and in writing.

·        Perform physical requirements associated with landscape and park maintenance.

·        Assist in training and supervising less experienced personnel and court-assigned workers.

·        Establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Experience and Education: Any combination of experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities.

·        High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.

Special Qualifications:

·        Possession of a valid California Driver’s License and good driving record.

·        Possession of a valid California Pest Control Applicator’s license or certificate, or the ability to obtain one within the first year (probationary period).
