Our masonry construction customer in Southern seeks a highly trained Bricktender to help producing exceptional products and services 
on time and within budget. Their proactive approach to customer relations has enabled them to develop strong, recurring partnerships with our clients. 

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direct supervision of the Construction Foreman, the Bricktender 
tends the bricklayer, furnishing him masonry units and mortar, builds and dismantles scaffolding, mixes 
mortar by hand and with gas or electric mixer, operates forklifts, trucks, saws and wheelbarrows. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES includes the following, in addition to other duties that 
may be assigned. 
Maintains ample supply of masonry units and mortar close to the bricklayers’ place of work. 
Makes sure the bricklayer does not run out of masonry units or mortar that would prevent 
continuous work conditions. 

Erects scaffold when needed and stocks the scaffold with masonry materials as needed. 
Installs safety guard rails and ladders for scaffolding as required by CAL/OSHA and also ties 
scaffolding to the walls as required by CAL/OSHA. 
Cleans masonry walls, when completed, and covers walls to protect from damage. 
Prepare, fabricate, install and erect reinforcing steel as required for the reinforced masonry 
walls. 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this craft successfully, the individual must be able to 
perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the

JOURNEYMAN: Satisfactory completion of an industry accredited apprentice training program 
or at least three (3) or more years employment as a mason tender trainee or apprentice for a 
licensed mason contractor. 

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating 
and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide units of measure, using 
whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute the amount of sand, water, 
cement or color, needed to mix the mortar as required by the specifications for the particular 
projects or as instructed by the bricklayer foreman. 

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in 
situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions 
furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or G.E.D. is desired but not mandatory. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must 
be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this craft. Reasonable

While performing the duties of this craft, the employee is regularly required to use hands to 
finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee 
frequently is required to stand; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee is 
occasionally required to walk, sit, and talk or hear. 
The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to fifteen (15) pounds, frequently lift and/or 
move up to thirty-five (35) pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds. The 
mason tender who mixes the mortar is required to frequently lift a bag of cement, above his 
waist, weighing one hundred (94) pounds. When building scaffolding, the employee regularly 
lifts scaffold planks which are two inch (2”) by ten inch (10”) and sixteen feet (16’) long. Specific 
vision abilities required by this craft include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth 
perception, and ability to adjust focus. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of

While performing the duties of this craft, the employee regularly works in proximity with moving 
mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions and is regularly exposed to airborne 
particles, and occasionally expose to fumes. The employee frequently works in high, precarious 
places and is exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to 
wet and/or humid conditions, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. 
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
