Position Summary: Preparing furniture by hand packing to be ready for shipping.

Position Responsibilities:

·         Select next piece of furniture to start on the wrap line.

·         Perform daily inspection of hoist to ensure safe operation.

·         Place piece on belt by lifting or by use of material hoist.

·         Select, build the appropriate cardboard tray for the style of furniture.

·         Cover the furniture with the appropriate shrink wrap bag.

·         Use heat gun to shrink wrap the furniture.

·         Apply identification pack label and verify accuracy; mark and label packages per company and DOT shipping guidelines.

·         Move the furniture to loading area using roller conveyor system, hoist, or team lift.

·         Communicate with other departments ensuring complete shipment.

·         Maintain neat and orderly work station; performs housekeeping daily.

·         Ensure area has needed supplies and tools; kept in assigned locations.

·         Wear required safety glasses, work shoes and other PPE as defined for work area; work safely and report unsafe conditions to Dept. Supervisor.

·         Maintain packing materials, recycled cardboard, recycled pallets, and disposables per company housekeeping guidelines.

·         Understand and ensure packing specifications are met.

·         Measure, weigh, count items against pack slips.

·         Help with loading furniture on truck for transport using hand truck, pallet jack, or team lift.

·         Works with team to keep dock doors unblocked and free of debris.

·         Record product, packaging, and order fulfillment information on specified forms and computer based records.

·         Performs stretching exercises.

·         Performs other duties as required by supervisor.

 

Essential Skills and Experience:

·         Must be knowledgeable in upholstery packing methods.

·         English required for reading tickets and job notes.

·         Must be organized and able to coordinate multiple tasks.

·         Must be able to effectively communicate with others.

Physical demands and work environment:

·                     Lift / Carry: Females lift up to 35 lbs. males lift up to 50 lbs.; team lift greater weights.

·                     Manual Dexterity:  The ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm,  or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.

·                     Standing/Walking: Must be able to stand and walk 8+ hours.

·                     Reach / Handle:  Using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials, and manipulating things.

·                     Crouch/Bend/Stoop/Kneel/Crawl:  Frequently required when inspecting furniture item.

·                     Push / Pull:  Frequently moving furniture items on/off pack conveyor or tables or sliding across floor.

·                     Environment: Indoors, environmentally controlled – 100%.

 

·                     Automation: Hoist, conveyor system, battery operated pallet jack used for positioning when needed.

·                     Near Vision: The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).

·                     Static Strength: The ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects.

·                     Trunk Strength: The ability to use your abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time without ''giving out'' or fatiguing.
