CNC Setup Machinist

Arleta, CA

Full time - Temp to hire.

Monday thru Friday - 2:30pm to 11pm

$25 to $30hr depending on experience.

 

Industry leading manufacturer of aircraft grade fasteners with full-service thread rolling capabilities including: high tensile and hardened materials, complete state of the art precision machining facilities, is seeking a CNC Setup Machinist to join their team in Arleta.

 

Summary: Sets up and operates numerical control machines or machining centers to perform various functions, such as cutting, drilling, milling, reaming, boring, and broaching of metallic and nonmetallic workpieces, utilizing knowledge of machine tool capabilities, machinability of materials, and shop math. Offsets and edits programs, when necessary, with minimal help from supervisor.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Offsets at machine to adjust tool into machining tolerances.
  • Is able to setup and obtain acceptable 1st article part in minimal time.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints, planning sheets, sketches, and related technical data to determine tooling requirements, setup procedures, control settings, and machining methods and sequences.
  • Must be able to identify problems and get supervisor to troubleshoot the possible fixes.
  • Mounts, aligns, and secures tooling, attachments, and work-piece on machine.
  • Selects and installs cutting tools in machine spindle.
  • Calculates and sets machine controls to position spindle in relationship to work piece and to regulate factors, such as cutting depth, speed, feed and coolant flow.
  • Starts machine and monitors displays and machine operation to detect malfunctions.
  • Stops machine to change cutting tools or to measure parts for conformance to blueprint specifications, using precision measuring instruments.
  • Enters commands to offset and adjusts machine controls to correct malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining.
  • Operates machine manually to perform non-automated functions and when automatic programming is faulty or machine malfunctions.
  • Discusses control media errors with supervisor or programming personnel to resolve problems.
  • Cleans machine, tooling, and parts.
  • Performs machine maintenance.
  • Communicates with co-workers and supervisor to receive instructions and coordinate activities.
  • Inspects and measures parts to maintain statistical process control charts.

 

Qualifications:

  • 2-3 years' experience and/or trade school.
  • Able to offset at machine, setup lathe and mill machine, reads and interprets blueprints.
  • Must be able to use micrometers, calipers, surface plate, and most inspection tools.
