Salary: $33.00 /hr. or higher, DOE

Job Summary:   2nd Shift, full-time openings with an established, successful manufacturing company in the Alabaster area. 2nd Shift; Three-day weekends (Mon-Thu schedule)!  

You will plan machining operation by studying work orders, blue prints, engineering drawings, materials, specification and machining parameters.  Machinist are responsible for machining materials to customer specifications.  Most work is custom with some small quantity jobs.  Programming at the controls is a must.  Work is performed in a clean climate-controlled environment.  Tools are provided.

Here's What Your Day-to-Day Looks Like:

  • Measure dimensions of finished workpieces to ensure conformance to specifications. Input initial part dimensions into control panels. 
  • Mount, install, align, and secure tools, attachments, fixtures, and workpieces on machines, using hand tools and precision measuring instruments. Stop & remove finished workpieces according to required machining sequences.
  • Transfer commands from servers to computer numerical control (CNC) modules, using computer network links.
  • Check to ensure that workpieces are properly lubricated and cooled during machine operation.
  • Set up and operate computer-controlled machines or robots to perform one or more machine functions on metal or plastic workpieces; insert control instructions into machine control units to start operation.
  • Review program specifications or blueprints to determine and set machine operations and sequencing, finished workpiece dimensions, or numerical control sequences.
  • Listen to machines during operation to detect sounds such as those made by dull cutting tools or excessive vibration and adjust machines to compensate for problems; remove and replace dull cutting tools. .
  • Enter commands or load control media, such as tapes, cards, or disks, into machine controllers to retrieve programmed instructions.
  • Modify cutting programs to account for problems during operation; save modified programs; adjust machine feed & speed as needed. 
  • Calculate machine speed and feed ratios and the size and position of cuts.
  • Lift workpieces to machines manually or with hoists or cranes; stack or load finished items.
  • Control coolant systems; maintain and clean machines; remove and replace broken or worn machine tools, using hand tools. 
  • Collaborate with supervisors or programmers to resolve machine malfunctions or production errors.
  • Implement changes to machine programs and enter new specifications, using computers.
  • Set up future jobs while machines are operating.
  • Input initial part dimensions into machine control panels.
  • Some machining may be required on manual Lathe, Mill, Drill Press etc.

Schedule & Pay:

  • 2nd SHIFT: Mon-THU, 4:00 pm - 2:30 am. $27.00 - $33.00 /hr. or DOE
  • Eligible for monthly profit-sharing after first 4 months (average typically $100 - $125 or more per month).

Here's What Makes YOU a Great Fit:

  • Min. 2 years' experience setting up and operating CNC Machinery
  • Must have programming experience.
  • Required: HS diploma or GED.  Preferred: CNC Machinist certification, completion of an apprenticeship program, technical program, or equivalent experience. 
  • Must be able to set up, program, and operate CNC Machinery accurately and effectively.
  • Strong analytical, mechanical, mathematical and solution-driven skills.
  • Must be able to read/comprehend part drawings with fractional and /or decimal dimensions.
  • Knowledge of precision measuring devices such as calipers, micrometers, etc.
  • Must be able to work independently and in a team.
  • Good work ethic; punctual & dependable; take pride in your work
  • Good teamwork, communication & collaboration skills
  • Physically able to do the job; occasionally lift or carry up to 50 lbs.
