The Lead Welder directly supervises those in the Welding Department. All personnel issues should be brought to the attention of the HR Department and/or the Production Manager. This position also assists in various management decision-making, including matters of hiring, organizational development, and  in the event that disciplinary action is needed will consult with the Production Manager. The Lead Welder is responsible for independently managing varied tasks and projects. The Lead Welder is expected to be in good standing with attendance, work overtime hours, have strong blueprint reading skills, travel, and have strong interpersonal skills

Reads and interprets Engineering documents.

Lays out parts and fits them up.

Proficient in MIG and arc welding methods and techniques to fabricate product.

Welds in a variety of positions including flat, vertical, and overhead.

Visually inspects work to ensure quality standards have been met, completes rework as needed.

Operates a hand torch, hand plasma torch, material handling equipment, and job clocking system.

Adheres to safety rules and regulations and assesses tasks for hazards prior to beginning work.

Assists on product installations and cross-training into other departments.

Uses a barcode scanning system to accurately clock in and out of jobs.

Maintains equipment, tools, and tidiness of department, reports all inventory shortfalls.

Assists in projects such as inventory counting and in-house jobs.

Remains knowledgeable of all Company products and policies.

Always adheres to all safety protocols including wearing proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and encourages other Associates to do so.

 

Field Work and Travel:

Travels continentally performing job duties offsite including outdoors and mine sites.

Completes all necessary travel documentation including daily reports, expense reports, attendance reports, etc.

Assists other associates in vetting outside fabricators when asked.

Communicates prudent information regularly and professionally to the customer and to the office.

Assists in field work including product installations, product commissioning, and warranty work.

Credentials Needed

 

4-year degree in a program or major relative to the position OR 2-year degree with 2-years of related experience OR high school diploma or general education equivalent and 4-years of related experience.

Familiarity with current & sound safety practices.

Familiarity with welding and production feasibility.

Demonstrated abilities in blueprint reading and various welding skills (dual shield, overhead, out of position, etc.).

Willingness to accommodate planned travel for training, product installations, warranties, check-ins, vendor vetting, etc.

Ability to represent the Company in a polite, friendly, and professional manner.

Ability to adhere to strict confidentiality when dealing with privileged and personal information.

Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and level of thoroughness in work.

Clear, confident, and engaging communication style.

Capable of informing a wide variety of audiences.

High mechanical aptitude and problem-solving abilities.

Ability to operate standard office equipment and proficiency in computer skills.

Systemized in approach to practice follow-up and follow-through to please associates, vendors, customers, etc.
