Role Summary:

Our Laser & Press Brake Operators are responsible for set up and operation of various machines. You’ll be performing basic machine set up, load/unload, and manufacture of programmed parts including the disassembly and assembly of machines, and maximize efficiencies in changeover necessary regarding tools, equipment, jigs, carts, etc. The ability to complete finished product within the parameters outlined in blueprints, mini-bills, and/or schedule along with adherence to all quality standards by producing products which align with the print specifications is critical to this position.

  • Complete required machine set up, load/unload machine, and manufacture programmed parts including the disassembly and assembly of machine.
  • May use an overhead crane to unload steel and load machine (as required by dept.).
  • May use forklift to load materials.
  • Partner with internal customers to coordinate parts delivery and production time lines to meet or exceed external customer expectations.
  • Complete finished product within the parameters outlined in blueprints, mini-bills, and/or schedule.
  • Initiate orders for raw steel stock and consumable parts (i.e. focusing lens, nozzle tips).
  • Maximize efficiencies in changeover necessary regarding tools, equipment, jigs, carts, etc.
  • Train other operators on set-ups, evaluate tooling damage and trouble shoot to take corrective action steps.
  • Complete all documentation necessary including scrap adjustments and material transfer sheets.
  • Utilize required tools (i.e. caliper, micrometers, tape measures, gauges, protractors) to adhere to all quality standards by producing products which align with the print specifications.
  • May need to assist in production area for assemble/fabrication of fireplace units as needed.
  • Responsible for compliance with Company rules, regulations, and safety practices.
  • Must practice safety awareness (JSA, LOTO, Certified Safe Member, 5S practices).
  • Must actively participate in continuous improvement activities
  • Completes quality and safety checks, procedures, and documentation.
  • Performs equipment preventative maintenance as directed.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Works with a high level of self-direction. Rotates cell assignments according to job rotation schedule.
  • This position has a direct impact to the quality of product produced.
  • Duties may involve a higher cost impact to the organization such as higher scrap exposure or higher probability of quality errors.
  • May be required to train and direct others as needed.
  • Ability to troubleshoot.
  • Machine Tech level is determined by machine points achieved as outlined in the machine tech certification criteria.

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • At least 1 year experience in a manufacturing position.
  • Ability to travel for training as needed. Travel will be paid for.
  • Proficient in basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, fractions, decimals), reading and writing.
  • Demonstrated participation in rapid continuous improvement.
  • Is blue print certified with usage of measuring tools, calibers.
  • Proven mechanical aptitude.
  • Previous experience with operating a variety of manufacturing machines preferred.
  • Previous forklift operating experience preferred.
