Welder/ Fitter

Pay Rate: $22+/HR

 

General Job Description:

• Layout, fit and tack weld small to medium size structures, components, weldments and sub-assemblies of a standard or repetitive nature to strict quality requirements
• Work from drawings, blueprints, bills of materials and job instructions to complete fit-ups in preparation for welding. Follow simple or self-evident operational sequences using fixtures or jigs to locate and position pieces
• Perform simple dimensional inspections with measuring devices before releasing completed fit-ups for welding.

 

Major Duties:

• Fit-up and tack weld various types of welded components, sub-assemblies or structures. Use hand tools to clean or grind materials in preparation for fit-up
• Inspect and adjust as necessary to maintain tolerances as specified
• Use Various types of overhead lifting hoists to maneuver heavy fixtures or components into place

 

Minor Duties:

• Weld using GMAW, FCAW, SMAW or GTAW techniques in multiple positions per AWS D1.1 Structural welding code standards
•  Fabricate fixtures or jigs as needed.
• Use manual machine tools like Magnetic Drills, Drill Presses or lathes to prepare parts for fit-up
•  Operate automatic equipment like Band Saws, Sandblasters or Parts Cleaners to prepare materials for fit-up
•  Perform general housekeeping and keep work areas neat and organized. Perform other tasks as needed

 

Requirements:

• High school diploma or  equivalent
• Technical training in welding, shop math, metals, blueprint reading and safety 
•  2+ years of welding experience with GMAQ, FCAQ, SMAQ or GTAW
• Experience in weld symbols, blueprint reading, shop math, gas use, dimensioning, reading measuring devices, material identification and following verbal or written instructions.
