Apprentice Program breakdown by hours. 3-6 months for training on first shift 7am-3pm, then move to the rotation schedule. Applicants must be able to push, pull and lift up to 50 pounds when needed. Must have Electrical or Mechanical Engineer degree.
1000 Hours

• Weld 4” long beads
o Butt weld 1/8” material
o Overlap weld 1/8” material

• Plug Gager
o Correct height adjustment – carriage centered bottled just touching pad
o Correct stroke – determined by cam running
o Reject kicker – rejecting correct bottle
o Pump setting – pump not bottomed out and running about 4 on pressure
o Speed – correct conveyor speed, same as machine
o Samples – rejecting all samples
o Handling – good bottle handling

• Squeeze Tester
o Correct wheel deflection – ¼”
o Correct air pressure – 20-25 pounds
o Correct speed with conveyor
o Finish protectors correct height – just touching finish
o Samples – breaking sample

• Sprayers
o Spray heads at correct height
o Photo-eyes set correctly
o Spray heads fanning out correctly
o Correct speed
o Shifting properly – not slamming

2000 Hours

• Welding:
o Arc welding – vertical and horizontal positions
o Gas – cut 1.5” angle iron; weld 1/8” flat stock

• Plug Gager Troubleshooting:
o Cam follower missing
o Kicker rejecting wrong bottle
o Kicker not working at all
o Worm out of time
o No power to console head
o Will not reject dip sample
o Will not reject plug sample

• Squeezer Troubleshooting:
o Too much deflection of wheel
o Will not start
o Jam switch will not work
o Will not break sample bottle
o Air bag will not retract

• OLT Setup:
o Strip height correct
o Correct strips
o Correct amount of deflection on strip – 1/8” to ¼”
o Correct amount of deflection of slowdowns – 1/8”
o Heads calibrated correctly – pointer on zero on zero cal and .05 on tuning
o Correct reject of bad bottles
o Ware handling well
o Not rejecting good ware

• Check Detector Setup:
o Correct cam
o Correct height of sensor ring above finish of bottle – ½” on narrow neck / 1” on wide mouth
o Correct phasing of upper and lower carriage – both centered on holes in carriage
o Correct amount of pressure on bottle – 3/8” to ½”
o Correct infeed of wheel phasing
o Correct angle of light sources – split lights one on each side 1/8” ahead of finish roller for narrow neck / 1/8” ahead of center of finish on wide mouth. Neck tear & ring check, 2 lights focused on front center of finish.
o Correct height of rotate belts – belt should be vertical center or lower
o Correct angle of brakes – brakes should be touching bottle when sitting flat on conveyor
o Correct prox switch adjustment – should be 1/16” from actuator, and set so inspection comes on after finish rollers are fully seated on finish. Inspection stops when the bottle is 1/32” from brakes and right before finish rollers leave finish of bottle

• Casepacker Setup:
o Correct grid for job – check diameter and job number
o Correct lane setup
o Correct carton setup
o Correct table lift – fingers just inside fillers or carriers

• School Hours:
o Must have a minimum of 144 hours
