Schedule: 

PM shift - Monday thru Thursday, 6pm - 10:30am 

Pay: $16.50/hr DOE +paid training and certification.

 

SURVEILLANCE GENERAL SUMMARY

Surveillance Field Technicians work to collect and identify mosquitoes, providing a critical role in keeping Ada County residents safe from mosquito-borne diseases, including West Nile virus. This entry-level position (PAID TRAINING) is a great opportunity for those seeking experience in the biological sciences or public health fields. Surveillance Field Technicians receive paid training in the identification, collection, and testing of mosquitoes for disease. In this role, Surveillance Field Technicians will learn mosquito biology, participate on research projects, and work with the latest technology in field biology. This is a part-time position (5-10 hours a day, 4 days a week), where a typical day involves using GPS to navigate to mosquito sample collection sites, retrieving samples for identification in the lab, and preparing mosquito samples for in-house disease testing. There is a possible potential for full-time hours in this role.  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Identifies targeted pests.
  • Skill in the identification of mosquito species
  • Operates application or surveillance equipment
  • Reads and navigates by paper and digital maps
  • Responsible for routine maintenance of equipment
  • Ability to learn new methods in identification of mosquito species

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Skill in the safe operation of equipment
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively 
  • Ability to use a personal computer and mobile field
  • Ability to tablet PC for guidance GPS equipment for mapping, surveillance and/or pesticide applications
  • Ability to maintain cooperative working relationship with other employees
  • Ability to work in the field independently and with peers and public.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Idaho driver’s license to operate County vehicles and equipment;

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • The nature of the work will require the employee to be in the field for long periods of time under various weather conditions
  • The work may require moving, transporting, and using pesticides
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must maintain appearance and cleanliness of work areas
